Hi, try restarting Firefox. If that doesn't work, open the 3-bar menu > Customize, and try clicking on Restore Defaults. If the search box isn't restored and you can see it in the Customize palette, simply drag it to a toolbar, then Exit Customize to save. More here - Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!

Thanks but I've done all those things for the last 6 hours and nothing helps. I have no address bar and no google search box.

OK, hold down Shift when you start Firefox to start in Safe Mode. More - Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode

If no help, try the Refresh feature, which can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

Before you do it, since it can rarely cause issues of its own and to be on the safe side, I would backup your bookmarks: Open bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Backup. Or, Export Bookmarks to HTML, and save them to somewhere convenient on your computer. Note that Backup will overwrite any existing bookmarks when/if you restore them. For extra safety, I'd suggest making both a Backup - which creates a JSON file, and an HTML file. You can instead backup all your data by copying your Profile, but this requires some technical expertise - Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Also make a note of any add-ons.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Do you want or not want that button in the left corner?

It sounds as though you are using the Classic Theme Restorer extension which can add back the compact Firefox button menu of Firefox 4-28 in later versions. CTR is extremely full-featured and using its settings dialogs you can make Firefox completely unrecognizable to forum volunteers. To manage those settings, as you probably already know, you can use its Options button on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then find Classic Theme Restorer on the right side and click its Options button.
