Why do I get both my pinned tabs and my home page tabs at startup?
My home page consists of two sites (tabs) and are set to show at startup. Everything worked as expected until I pinned both tabs. Now, at startup I get four tabs, the two pinned tabs and the two unpinned tabs from the home page. This IS NOT what I expected.

Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar.
There are two settings;
- When Firefox Starts
When the browser is started, what do you want to display. Many of us choose Show My Home Page.
- Home Page
When a new page is opened, what do you want displayed.
- Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
- Use Bookmark
- Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla home page with tools.
You can use any of these that you wish;
about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),
or you can enter any web page or about: page you want.
Firefox will open at least one normal tab when started if all normal tabs were closed, but should select a pinned tab if you close Firefox with a pinned tab selected. In your case you have set to home pages, so both pages will be opened as normal tabs. You would have to set the startup page to a blank page (about:blank) to have only one tab opening.
The Copy and Cut an Paste items in the Edit menu and in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list should work for the location bar as well. There is no context menu item apart from Select All, the keyboard shortcuts works and can be used instead.

Since my home pages and my pinned tabs were the same, I expected to see only my pinned tabs. about:newtab comes the closest to what I expected so that is what I will use. Thanks for the replies.
I suggest adding a new option in preferences to open AND PIN the home page(s).
