Firefox crashing with websites Facebook and Publisher's Clearing House
On Saturday July 4th, I downloaded Mozilla Firefox 39 and finally got it working after finding out that Norton firewall was keeping me from accessing the internet. Now a new problem has arisen. The websites Facebook and Publisher's Clearing House is causing Firefox to crash. Even this page that I'm typing on caused Firefox to crash. I'm using my phone to type in what is happening. Any suggestions folks?

Reading the info linked to the crash report, ALL of the crashes with this precise crash ID are on Windows 8.1 with RADEON adapters. But it doesn't seem unique to Firefox 39; there were numerous reports with Firefox 38.0.5 during the past few weeks.
Reading further down the crashing threads in your most recent reports:
(1) Triggered by trying to play MPEG-encoded media using the Windows Media Foundation:
(2) Triggered by drawing on an HTML Canvas
Both lead to Firefox calling the Windows Direct3D library d3d9.dll and from there the ATI/AMD libraries.
I think Direct3D is now up to d3d11.dll (version 11), so I wonder whether your Windows itself could use an update? This is from a Microsoft support article:
To check which version of DirectX is on your computer, follow these steps:
(Windows 8.1 or Windows 8) Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.) Type dxdiag in the search box, and then tap on click dxdiag.exe.
Click the System tab, and then, under System Information, check the DirectX version number.
Try to disable Windows Media Foundation in Firefox and see if toggling these prefs to false on the about:config page has effect.

- media.windows-media-foundation.enabled

Does it has effect if you boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen)?
Well boys. Have a look at this.
Whaaaat? With all these graphics diagnostic programs not running normally, have you tried shutting down and restarting Windows a few times, and then running them without starting Firefox first?
A couple of times today I had to do a hard shut down because my laptop froze. The last time I did that was earlier in the evening. I tried to get on Twitter and everything froze.
OK jscher2000. I have the DirectX Diagnostic Tool up. Here is a screenshot. What do you want to know?
Your DirectX diagnostic shows you have DirectX 11, which is the current version, so that seems fine. Does the AMD update advisor (or whatever it's called) work any better if you try that one again?
I uploaded one for Edmesiter yesterday around 8:46pm PDT yesterday and he said they looked up to date. Problem is it took several hours before it came up.
I guess there's nothing else to do is there?
Could you try to minimize Flash issues using these steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1069957#answer-750499
I'm not having Adobe Flash issues. I am able to watch videos on youtube WITHOUT Adobe Flash OR Firefox crashing.
I'm running a Mac Powerbook with OSX 10.6.8. Only when FF is on top, the screen will flicker and the graphic content will become scrambled, and although I can move the pointer, I cannot click on anything. I need to crash the computer using the power key and restart. The screen is locked up. SOMETIMES I can get to another app, and I have no problems. I opened a magazine in PDF and was able to scroll around without locking up the screen.

Well boys. I'm on Firefox in Safe Mode and the aforementioned websites are working. Problem is in Safe Mode Twitter still freezes up and occasionally Adobe Flash crashes. What is causing Firefox to crash with Facebook or Publishers Clearing House? I haven't the foggiest idea. So until SOMEBODY figures out WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON I'll stay in Safe Mode.
Now Yahoo Mail is causing Firefox to freeze up in Safe Mode.
Anybody looking to see what is wrong with Firefox 39?
Okay, Safe Mode works around the problems with the graphics adapter-related crashes. For your other crashes, did you do the steps regarding Flash yet?
No, I'll work on that tomorrow as I'm off from work. Can you copy and paste the steps again jscher2000 please? Thanks.

Ok. Thanks jscher2000. I'll work on that tomorrow.
Well jscher2000. That didn't work either. It made Facebook freeze up everything in EITHER mode of Firefox, regular and Safe Mode. So far Publishers Clearing House works fine.
