I am unable to move from page to page. This is not my computer or internet because my internet explorer works fine. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cookies and history, restarted my computer and none of this has helped. I have used this service for a very long time because I like it more that internet explorer, but I cannot operate in this manner.

i am sorry you have this problem, when did the problem start?

more options

It has dominantly been within the last week or so. It has happened in the past on and off but it is bad right now.

more options

did the problem start when you updated from 38 to 39? Have you tried installing the previous version and seeing if the problem persists? Have you tried system restore?

I restored from the trouble shooting page. I am not sure if I have tried 38.

Have you tries resetting firefox?

What in particular is slow.

  • Is it loading of new web pages ?
  • Is it only on video ?
    • Or is it on most pages including pages like this forum ?
And what about the links that follow ?

Have a look at these articles

Are you seeing any eror messages, or anything giving you a clue as to what the problem is ?

more options

No, it was working well for a day then again it started. No error just a spinning wheel at the top of the tab. I have yet again uninstalled it and am thinking I am giving up on this browser.

What did you change the day Firefox went slow? Installed anything, hardware or software? Do you get any error messages, from Firefox, Windows or other applications? Any other programs running slowly?

It may be a software or hardware issue - please post more information about your computer (operating system, RAM, available size of harddisk, processor type...)

Hi aschoeneman, Sorry you are still having problems with Firefox and we have been unable to solve this issue for you so far. I did not even know whether you were watching this thread still.

It is bad for you if pages do not load at all ! Or are extremely slow loading. But the other side of the coin is: If IE works it is likely to be a relatively simple problem to solve. It's the intermittent problems and subjective performance issues that are usually harder to troubleshoot and resolve.

Other related software ? As jk86 says it could be a problem with other software or hardware. If so one of the more likely causes may be security related software or your Firewall.

Firefox Reinstalls & Clean Reinstall I understand trying to reinstall Firefox and hoping it solves problems, but unfortunately the standard reinstall rarely helps. I am not wishing to make this overly complicated but there are two factors to be aware of.

  1. Profile information
This is normally deliberately and automatically retained. It means you do not lose passwords bookmarks and other settings. It May be reset partially and separately using the refresh feature. More advanced users would probably use another method and create a new additional profile.
Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles
Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
  2. Clean Reinstall
This is the method needed if the Firefox program files themselves are the problem. Possibly due to some sort of corruption. They need to be manually deleted before reinstalling Firefox. (Please do not be tempted to use some third party uninstaller as they're likely to remove your profile settings)

After ruling out any firewall or security related issues try the clean reinstall. Please post back to say what you have tried and how you get on, and please also provide the information requested by jk86 if the problems persist.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default: (Windows:)
    • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

And I run into a problem. I uninstalled because I don't have time to waste and now I cannot even get the download to run. I click here to say it doesn't work and nothing is happening. This happened the last time I tried to install the browsing system. I have taken an hour of my day to attempt this and it is not working. My computer 849/921 GB free plus an external 1 TB where I store most of my information so I am not using much space. I have 16 GB of RAM. Microsoft Windows 8.1.

I cleaned my computer disk and still no download. Two hours of trying.

Did you test your hard drive?

Hi again aschoeneman, Lets see if we can break this down into smaller chunks that lets me understand more easily what is happening.

This happened the last time I tried to install the browsing system.

I take that to imply that you are still using the Internet Explorer browser, and have problems still with the Firefox Browser.

now I cannot even get the download to run.

By that do you mean Firefox is not working. Or are you telling us that the Firefox installer is not working ?

My computer 849/921 GB free plus an external 1 TB where I store most of my information so I am not using much space.

I am not sure what your figures refer to. For instance does "849/921GB free" Indicate 849 out of 921 GB is used, if so that is less than 10% free space.

I tend not to use WIndows much myself these days. I years gone by and much smaller disks 20-25% free space may have been recommended, with defragging becoming impossible once it dropped to about 12% free space. But lets for now accept that you do have adequate free space. Whilst the amount of free space may conceivably affect performance I doubt it is preventing Firefox installing or running.

I cleaned my computer disk and still no download. Two hours of trying.

If that refer to disk optimisation, then yes that my be time consuming but may not be crucial to your Firefox install issue.

CLEAN INSTALL

  • Did you try to follow the steps as mentioned in my post above ?
  • If you had problems with that how far did you get and which steps did you have any problems with.
  • Did you get as far as 4.1
4.) Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
1.) Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
  • Please explain what problems there were and whether you saw any error messages ?

Or is there a problem with just getting Firefox to run ?

  • Did you complete the clean install ?
  • Is the computer and especially Internet Explorer generally problem free.

My computer is using less than a quarter of its capacity internal and yes. There is something wrong with the download. My computer was restored to factory settings just a few weeks ago, and since my computer has run on Mozilla for the last year that I have owned it, highly unlikely to be an internal issue with my software. Since I am in school I really do not have a lot of spare time to figure out where the issue is. So maybe in a few weeks I will have a minute to wipe my whole hard drive, but till then, I cannot operate and waist time on this endeavor.

I realise you will not have time to answer just yet.

Obviousllly if you are not receiving the download of the installer you are not going to get Firefox to install and so will not be able to make a clean install of Firefox.

You could consider trying to use another computer, or possibly ask a fried to help you and download the installer to some trnsferable media such as a memory stick.

If you returned the computer to factory settings and are using less than a quarter of the hard disk drive then unless you have reson tobelive the hard disk drive is faulty there may not be any point in wiping or reformatting it.

Unfortuanatly we are not really able to help with problems with other browsers or general computer issues.
