I am running firefox 13.0 on WinXP SP3.

I have downloaded the 13.1 upgrade.

I attempt to apply. I get the progress bar saying the update is being applied and then I get a message saying the update can't be applied and to check there is not another copy of firefox running.

I have checked and there isn't.

Any suggestions on how I upgrade to 13.1 ?

Thanks

D

Chosen solution

OK. I downloaded the full install from firefox..com and installed it and it worked first time.

I did not de-install existing 13.0.0. version first.

Thanks for the help.

If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.

You can also delete active-update.xml and possibly updates.xml (stores the update history).

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
(%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)

The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.

I do not appear to have "active-update.xml", "updates.xml" and the "updates" folder

I have set my explorer to view hidden files and folders

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
