Does anybody know if this file can be of any help trying to locate browsing history? It was cleared on my PC and this is the only file that hasn't been affected.

Also, when Firefox cache is cleared, can it be relocated using an un-delete tool on the hard drive?

Chosen solution

The data is removed from inside the places.sqlite file and because there is no function to undo like when editing a document, the data is permanently lost. Sorry to say this, but I think the only chance would be a backup or a previous version.

The history and other data are stored in another [Firefox Profile Folder. The history + bookmarks file is places.sqlite. Restoring this file may help to get the history back.

Thanks for the info. I don't have a backed up places.sqlite file, do you know if the cache from the cleared history can be located again within the hard-drive (Deleter or not)

If the Vista version has the Restore previous versions when right-clicking on a folder, you can try that on the profile folder (usually ***.default inside the Profile folder and Restore an earlier version. An undelete software may not help because the actual file is still present on the disk.

Vista does not have any restore feature on individual files. Do you know where the old cached images may have gone? or does Firefox completely remove all traces of it if the "clear everything" command is used within the browser?

Thanks for the information. Do you know if any forensic tools could help recover any data? Whether itd be links or cache?
