Hi,

I have this annoying problem. After I upgraded my Firefox to version my places.sqlite file get corrupt everyday. The size of the file is 102,400 KB.

I would like to use this file, rather then a newly generated one. Should I revert back to FF 3.x.x?

Thank you.

Make sure that you do not use cleanup software like CCleaner to cleanup files in the Firefox Profile Folder

Hi,

I am not using CCleaner. I want to preserve my history. However after upgrading to Firefox 4, the file "places.sqlite" gets corrupted almost everyday. It renames itself to "places.sqlite.corrupt".

My question is why is it getting corrupt and how to fix this problem?

Thank you.

Hi, I have the same problem. Every third time or so that I start FF4 it has renamed my places.sqlite to places.sqlist.corrupt.

I just close FF, delete the new places.sqlite, and rename the .corrupt one back to places.sqlite and restart FF. Works like a charm, but it's still a pain in the ass.

Oh, almost forgot, sometimes along with the rename FF creates places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal. You will need to blow these away along with the new places.sqlite before renaming and restarting. This is why I now have a shortcut to my profile folder on my desktop.

PS. This has nothing to do with registry cleaners. I haven't run one since FF3.

I've had the same problem after upgrade from FF3. In addition, the history was not saved anymore. My solution :

1) export all Bookmarks (Bookmarks->All->Import/Save->Export as HTML) 2) close FF4 3) delete/rename ALL places.sqlite* 4) delete/rename bookmarkbackups 5) launch FF4 6) import Bookmarks (HTML)

It's not about the bookmarks. It's about the Histroy. I wanna preserve the history.

Thank you.

Places.sqlite stores the bookmarks and the history, so if the file gets corrupted and you need to delete it that you will lose the history. The bookmarks will get restored from a JSON backup, but there is no backup for the history. Places.sqlite shouldn't get corrupted that often. If that happens to you then that would strongly suggest that you have other (cleanup or security) software that is corrupting the file. Also make sure that Firefox closes properly (no hanging processes in the Task Manager).

Thanks to this site i was able to restore my bookmarks. I am FF user since day 1 and never had my bookmarks "lost", but after running CCleaner today, all bookmarks were gone. Strange, because I am a CCleaner user for years and never had this problem. So its not daily, but once. Maybe its the combination FF 4.0.1 and CCleaner 2.26.1050 (wich is old). I think its the first time I used CCleaner on FF4. There was no message from FF saying something like "corrupt places.sqlite". After deleting this file, bookmarks were back, without the icons tho, but they will come back after visiting the sites.
