All of a sudden, my "trash" quit working - all I get is a round circle constantly running. All other folders work perfectly.

When I opened Thunderbird today - everything seemed to be working ok - messages downloaded fine, etc. When I went to open the "trash" folder - all it would do is show a round circle constantly running. All other folders opened and work fine. I opened "properties" for the trash folder and all the lines are blank (but fully filled for "properties" on all other folders.) Don't know what to do. Please help?
