I found the answer helpful and tried the first two suggestions addon manager and scanning the first anti-virus option, when that didn't find anything I tried to solve it myself. I managed to get to Firefox restore previous settings or something like that. This allowed Firefox to return to original settings which removed the offending toolbar. Thank you for your help
