Many news type pages change or update it's content. Meaning the page you bookmarked today may not exist tomorrow.

Try to use the sites search bar.

Does this problem occur when you use the Back button to return to a page listing a number of articles? Often such pages contain instructions to Firefox not to cache the page. In that case, when you go back, Firefox will reload it from the server and start you back at the top.

One workaround is to avoid using the Back button by opening articles in a second tab. If you hold down the Ctrl key while clicking the link to the article, Firefox should direct it to a new tab. Alternately, you can "middle-click" the link with the scroll wheel.

By default, Firefox will usually open the linked article in the background. If you want that article to be made active right away, you can change a setting on the General Options page:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > General

Under the Tabs section, check the box for "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately"

You can also hold down the Shift key in addition of a Ctrl+ left-click or a middle-click on a link to toggle the focus/background setting.
