I made a couple bookmark for link to a direct pdf file. So the bookmarked sited ends with : " .pdf " I can't delete those bookmarked sites. It stays there.
I made a couple bookmarks. These bookmarked sites end with the extention: '.pdf'. Its a link that i can directly see/download the PDF file. Now that i dont need them anymore, i want to delete them. But when i open the bookmarks, right-click on the bookmark and press 'delete', it wont delete. It stays right where they are. Other bookmarks can be deleted, but those that are direct link to a pdf file cant.

Looking at the screenshot again with the original issue, the icons are in the toolbar? If the bookmarks are deleted from the bookmark manager and the link is still on the toolbar this is a dead link that is still showing up.
For example, if I store a bookmark and put it in the Bookmark toolbar all of that information is stored in places.sqlite, the original file that was recommended to make a copy of the file instead of deleting (:-) thank you John)
There is an extension that can be used to fix the dead links:

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
Hi,
Thank you for contacting support. What steps are you taking to delete the bookmark? Are you doing it from the Bookmarks manager, if so you can show all bookmarks and search for the pdf, and right click to delete the bookmark.
Please let us know if the troubleshooting steps provided helped.
sorry for the late response. i installed and deleted all mallware and stuff. still same error. it pops up randomly.. maybe i will delete firefox and reinstall it or something like that. see if that helps though..
When you are deleting them if you open the profile folder https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../open-profile-folder/ In the places.sqlite info window, remove the check mark from the Locked check box. Is this file locked?
i dont know what you mean by locked? I have the folder open and i can see the place.sqlite file. Should i delete it?
Firstly if you are going to delete the database places.sqlite I would rename it instead. Use something like places.sqlite.old01 . That at least gives you an easy recovery option.
Secondly if changing bookmarks files by restoring, importing or deleting the database it is wise to make a manual backup of the bookmarks before each change. You could regret it if you do not backup and then happen to make a mistake.
Thirdly, Is it actually a problem with Firefox bookmarks ?
I am wondering have you in fact downloaded a .pdf file on to your computer.
- Is it that file or the shortcut to that file that you are trying to delete ?
- a screenshot of the message saying you can not delete may help us
its a direct link to a pdf file. it doesnt say anything when deleting. i rightclick.. press delete..but nothing happens. same protocol at another bookmarked item that isnt a direct pdf link deletes the bookmark.
i also cant see the preferences of the bookmarks
after saving the bookmark as HTML, i opened it and looked the the bookmarked items in the HTML file.. but couldnt find it there.. so in fact .. they are deleted i gues..? but still remain in firefox bookmark list
If you are using Firefox or otherwise saving bookmarks as HTML that is not a proper Firefox bookmark. Firefox has an internal database of bookmarks that it display from the bookmarks manager / library, and uses in dropdown lists and for location bar results. To learn more about Firefox bookmarks please have a look at the following articles
- Get started with Firefox - An overview of the main features_one-click-bookmarking

HTML files are files external to Firefox. Although Firefox may often open such files and even import then so they get tacked on to the existing bookmarks. HTML files may be
- Used as backups
- Employed by other browsers such as Internet Explorer as favorites (favourites) [Windows Explorer also has favourites but that is a separate subject]
- See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favorites
I am not sure what is shown in the screenshot. Is it the result of a Windows search or Folder contents ? (I do not use Windows much myself.)
It appears your question is likely to relate more to use of your Windows Operating System than to Firefox. Perhaps my explanation helps you to figure out what it is you are looking at.
The print screen was of my bookmarks.
What i did was, go on the bookmark, saving it as jspon file ( or something like that ), but ALSO saving it as HTML. when opening the HTML file, to see how it looked like.. i saw my bookmarks in the order i set them up in firefox. But i did NOT come across the bookmarks that i want to delete but cant delete in the HTML file...
So meaning: i backed my bookmarks up with an jspon extention.. but also one with HTML. in the HTML version, there was no .pdf bookmarks.. the ones i want to delete, but cant, in FF.. was not listed..
I am still not sure what your screenshot is. It does not seem to be a screenshot of your Firefox Bookmarks Library. For comparison from Sort your bookmarks to quickly find the ones you want
The Firefox bookmarks ( type.json) backups are intended to be used to restore Firefox bookmarks, BUT be careful because these overwrite the existing bookmarks.
They are referred to as backups because they are intended as a backup to be used only if your loose or corrupt the originals. There is ordinarily no easy way to see what is in these backups without restoring them.
The HTML bookmarks import and export from Firefox. They append to the existing Firefox Library bookmarks, or as I often say are "tacked on" to the end of Firefox Library existing bookmarks.
When you export if the pdf bookmarks exist in your library, they should also be exported as HTML bookmarks.
I am not sure I understand what you are not able to do ?
- do you see the pdf bookmarks in the library ?
As a test try bookmarking this it is a single page
- https://wiki.mozilla.org/images/6/67/Logo.pdf (From https://wiki.mozilla.org/File:Logo.pdf )
- then post a screenshot of the library after you have used the search from the top of the Library and entered .pdf and hit the Return Key.
- afterwards try deleting this new bookmark, does it delete ok ?
