Updating is a lil confusing! Took me a ton of time to figure out how to do "manual updates". Was a bit annoying. The Click "Firefox" Button-then click "help" -then click "about Firefox" Is Not what you expect.

No-where are you given a clue this will aide you in manual updating! Also how do you know the add on and extensions are up to date?!

For those like me that just simply want to make sure everything is up to date could someone make a new button?

Make a button called "Updates" and add it next to the home button up at the top. Allow this button to somehow not only Manually check for updates to Firefox, but to also check for updates to Extensions and add-on. Then tell us, Yes everything is up to date or These things could be updated, and these things could be added to improve your browsers performance.

Doing this would be very helpful! Hope a developer is able to do this and soon!

Because other then this I have come back to Firefox as my browser and I just love everything else and how it works! Everything I need to run my business is just a simple click and I'm there.

I recommend Firefox to everyone I know because it's so great. But even my friends are asking, um how can we be sure everything is up to date?

Thanks everyone for making Firefox Awesome!

Hello JessicaAnn, for the add-on updates see : Check for new versions of your add-ons

i agree and i like your idea, but note that, definitely a developer can do this without problem, except if he/she can't do that for some other reason who has no relation with him/her, but for the product(firefox) in general, like specifications, prohibitions etc !!!

but....you can file a bug about that : https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

again i like your idea and i'll vote the bug also.

thank you

  1. As installed, Firefox is set up for automatic updates.
  2. Help > About ..... is a standard Windows convention for displaying information about the current version of a "Windows" program. Some of those program do like Firefox does, when automatic updates are disabled the Check for Updates appears in that About .... dialog window.

IMO, rather than asking developers to change the manner in which something is done, the user needs to learn the program more fully when they deviate from the standard setting in a program.

Also, if users push the issue about adding a "Check" button to the UI and the developers are liable to remove the option for allowing manual updates completely!

There's always the hidden prefs for disabling automatic updates .....

Those prefs have been a part of my standard user.js file for the last 8 or 9 years now. Just copy that file into a new Profile and all my "config" prefs are set "at one fell swoop".
