I can save passwords on new sites. On some sites I am not asked to save. Perhaps I previously said "Never Save" for the site. How do I override this?

Hi,

In your preferences (Tools -> Options in the menu), go to the "Security" tab, and beside the "Remember Passwords for sites" checkbox, you will see a button for "Exceptions...". If you've previously told Firefox not to remember a password for a site, it will appear in the list that pops up. Removing the site from the Exceptions list will make it ask you again next time whether you want to save your password.

Please note that some web sites request Firefox not to save your password (many banking sites are like this), in which case you can't save your password without more work. Also, Flash login pages generally don't work with the password manager.

Thanks for suggestions, but my Exception is empty. I only recently upgraded my Firefox and the key popup comes for new sites, but not old one that I had never saved.

It may be, then, that the site has a special code that tells Firefox not to save passwords (it's the "autocomplete=off" setting).
