The viewing area is not using my whole screen. It's centered and there are three inches on each side which is blank. I would like the a larger viewing area.

Firefox doesn't zoom web pages to make them fill the screen.
You can use one of these extensions to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages:
- Default FullZoom Level: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/
- NoSquint: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/
