Migration to ESR 115.1 from 115.0.2
I am currently running Firefox on High Sierra 10.13.6 and have been advised that that OS will soon no longer be supported. I did have an option to do an update to ESR 115.1 in my Firefox app, however I was not home for a few days and when I returned planning to do the update it was no longer available. Now it just says my Firefox is up to date with 115.0.2... how can I get the update to the ESR 115.1? Thanks!

Will the update to 115.1 ESR be automatic like any other release then?
You should get a special update mar (for macOS 10.12, 10.13, 10.14 users) that will update you to 115.1.0 ESR if you are indeed using 115.0.2 Release and not the 115.0.2 ESR when Firefox 116.0 is released. If you are already using 115 ESR then you will get a regular update to 115.1.0 ESR at same time as 116.0 Release.
You will need macOS 10.15 (ten.fifteen) at minimum in order to run Firefox 116 and later. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-macos-1012-1013-1014-moving-to-extended-support
You can install the 115.0 ESR right now (current is 115.0.3 ESR) if you prefer, though make sure the Which version would you like? drop menu has 115 ESR selected as the older 102 ESR channel is selected by default. https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/#product-desktop-esr

You will be updated automatically to the 115.x.0 ESR version when Firefox 116 gets released in a few weeks.
Current is still 115.0.2 ESR.
OK... that would be good! I am wondering though... I am not running 115.0.2 ESR. Just 115.0.2, it's not an ESR release... it's just the last of the "regular" FF updates I'll get.
It was just odd to me that the option to update to 115.1 ESR was there for a few days only and then gone before I got the chance to do it... I've been ripping hair for not doing it before I flew the coop for a few days when the option was there! *blush** Relieved to hear I'll have another chance, thanks so much for letting me know!
This is the version that I'm running right now: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/115.0.2/releasenotes/
Will the update to 115.1 ESR be automatic like any other release then? Thank you so much again for your help.

You should not get a update to 115.1.0 ESR until it is released along side the Firefox 116.0 Release.
Firefox 116.0, 115.1.0 ESR, 102.14 ESR is scheduled for Release on Aug 1st. https://whattrainisitnow.com/release/?version=esr
The second number updates along side each major Firefox version release while the last number updates when it warrants a security and or stability fixes. Right now you should only get 115.0.x updates in meantime if there are any more.
Firefox 115 ESR should get updates till 115.15.0 ESR released sometime late next year.

Thank you very much for your replies! They are indeed very helpful and I think they have solved my questions very well. When I found the update to 115.1 ESR when I checked for updates under "About Firefox" I googled it and found one other person who had the same thing as me happen: https://www.reddit.com/r/browsers/comments/153q8zb/firefox_115_esr_for_mac/ This is when I became aware that support for below MacOS 10.15 was being dropped, so I definitely want the 115.1 ESR version for a time until I figure out something more permanent. The release notes I linked to above are from my current version of Firefox so yes, it is definitely 115.0.2 Release. As mentioned I never did the offered update to 115.1 ESR as it disappeared before I got the chance. I set Firefox to check for updates but to let me install them and I check about once a week.
I like that they can be automatic and come as an app update because that way I don't have to create a whole new profile etc. but prefer to do the install myself. I've never had any major problems with an update this way, updates have always found my profile and worked very well.
Note there has been a 115.0.3 ESR update.
You sure you did not misread 115.0.1 as 115.1 ?
People newer to Firefox and and its versions tends to sometimes misplace the decimal or omit the zero so they may type a version for example the 114.0.2 Release version as 114.2
https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/releases/ July 7: 115.0.1 July 11: 115.0.2 July 19 (I think as page does not load) : 115.0.3
You should not have been able to get a update to 115.1.0 as it does not exist yet. Its possible it was the 115.0.1 update at the time and then you got the 115.0.2 update.
As you can see on https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ and in the candidate folder, https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/candidates/ that there is no 115.1.0 ESR yet.
Hi James, No I am positive it said 115.1... just as the fellow in the link I left above who saw the same: [quote]I have Firefox 115.0.2 on MacOS and FF is asking me to upgrade to 115.1esr ??? How can that be to switch toa ESR version? What's going on here?/quote
It did surprise me as well as once I realized that below Mac OS 10.5 would no longer be supported when FF 116 comes out and that we would be migrated to ESR, when FF 116 came out. I can only assume it was an error? I've actually been using Mozilla in some form or another since i got my first computer in 1997. Then it was Netscape and I've been a supporter ever since. I didn't and still don't care for other browsers so much and hated Internet Explorer! I was for a time the moderator of a Netscape forum. When Firefox came out I felt completely at home! :)
My biggest problem is that I haven't "tinkered" with the workings of the browser for a long time and while I remember some of those old things I'm afraid I've gotten lazy with Firefox. I "am" embarrassed however it really is a testament to Mozilla and Firefox... it has always worked so well for me and there are a couple of utilities I use for Mac now that do what I used to get on Terminal for. Anyway neither version, 115.1 ESR or 15.0.1 make much sense as the latter would be a downgrade.
Hi cor-el, That link for 1115.0.3 ESR works for me... thank you the suggestion... it is a thought. But since it's not an app update I would think you need to create a whole new profile and re-download extensions? Would it work to copy the contents of the present profile to the new one and have it work? I think it should...
Thanks again for all the help... as my memory comes back, I may turn to tinkering again! ;)
Apologies James... the link you have for a 115.0.3 release indeed does not load... the one that does load for me is the link for 115.0.3 ESR that cor-el posted.
So now I have to say I am confused... if there is a 115.0.3 ESR then should there not be a 115.0.3 Release? I don't know what happened but I'm thinking there had to be some sort of mix-up on what updates and versions showed up under About Firefox for updates. Mine now still says Firefox is up to date at 115.0.2. Release notes: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/115.0.2/releasenotes/?utm_source=firefox-browser&utm_medium=firefox-desktop&utm_campaign=about-dialog
I'm sorry for any confusion on my part about that. I am sure about the 115.1 ESR that appeared there for a few days and then was gone. As I mentioned I found one other instance on google of that showing up, this is the only other instance I found: https://www.reddit.com/r/browsers/comments/153q8zb/firefox_115_esr_for_mac/ which says: "I have Firefox 115.0.2 on MacOS and FF is asking me to upgrade to 115.1esr ??? How can that be to switch toa ESR version? What's going on here?"
There is a mention of version 115.1 here on a Windows board: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/firefox-latest-vs-firefox-esr.16180/

The #11 post dated July 8 corresponds with the Firefox 115.0.1 (115.zero.one) Released on July 7 as you can see at https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/115.0.1/releasenotes/
Which was a few weeks before the 115.1.0 (115.one.zero) is even scheduled for Release on Aug 1st.
115.0.1 came out July 7 115.0.2 came out July 11 115.0.3 came out July 18
https://whattrainisitnow.com/release/?version=esr 115.1.0 will be out Aug 1st. 115.2.0 will be out Aug 29 115.3.0 will be out Sept 26
Like I said earlier.

I see the Firefox versions get mistyped here all the time, more so with newer users.

For example you mistyped macOS 10.15 as 10.5 to show one can do such.

I never said I don't make "any" mistakes... I am after all only human. ;) One more question... Firefox prompted me to upgrade to 115.0.3 this afternoon and that seems to have gone well as usual.
I can provide a screenshot if you want one.
Do you still expect a migration update to 115.1 ESR to come out on or around August 1st?
Thank you for your help and I want you to know that I do absolutely appreciate that Firefox still provides a year of ESR updates to give one a chance to set up something more permanent.
Apologies for any inconvenience on my part.
Yes the Firefox 115.0.3 Release is legit as shown on https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/115.0.3/releasenotes/ as they are trying to make the transition from Fx 115 Release channel to Fx 115 ESR channel without issues.
You should get updated from 115.0.3 Release to 115.1.0 ESR when the Fx 116.0 Release is Released on Aug 1st or shortly after. When Firefox 117 is released the ESR update will be 115.2.0 ESR.
Thank you very much for confirming that for me!
An update from today... Firefox again prompted me to update to 115.1 ESR, so I did the update. Everything seems fine however it still states I am up to date on 115.0.3 (64-bit) - What's new:
Under that it states: You are currently on the esr update channel.
I do have a screenshot of that result if you want it. It would seem all that really happened was that I was moved to the ESR channel.
OK... this is interesting... in Firefox Settings>General>Firefox Updates>Show Update History I get this:
Clicking on "Details" just goes to 115.0.3 releases notes. Obviously I know very well that 115.1 ESR is not available yet so why does it keep prompting me to install it? Yes, my fault for trying to install it because I set Firefox to let "me" choose to install but if I had it set to automatic, it would have installed itself. But it did move me to the esr update channel apparently so I hope it WILL install when it actually comes out.
There is a 115.1.0 ESR in Candidates folder for QA testing purposes however there is no 115.1.0 ESR in Release folder yet.
https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/candidates/115.1.0esr-candidates/ https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/
OK... thank you for that bit of information! Will I get a prompt to update once the official release comes out then? :) ... Or am I looking at doing something I've not done for a long, long time... a complete restore of my Mac from Time Machine back to July 27th?
