Hi noway, by default, new bookmarks are added to the Other Bookmarks category. You can move them after saving them -- just click the blue star -- or you can set Firefox to show that same dialog at the time of saving. To do that, click the blue star then check the box for "Show editor when saving."

If you prefer to have your bookmarks save into a different folder by default, there is an add-on for that:

You'll need to go to its settings page to modify the save folder before you notice any difference.

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to write a reply. However, I already know how bookmarks operate, which is why I said it's stupid. I don't know when it changed, because it's been a few weeks since adding any new bookmarks, and it used to allow choosing the destination folder. Now you say there is an Add-on? Why would there be a need for an Add-on. saving anything to a destination folder has been basic functionallity for ever, and I was using computers before browsers. Even MS-Windows allows the choice of destination folders.

And, despite having all the appropriate check boxes checked, Firefox is not clearing Cached Web Content on-close. The key sequence Ctrl-Shift-Delete doesn't clear the Cached Web Content. It is necessary to go through Preferences > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data ...

Screwy basic functionallity messed-up: Firefox has taken a back slide. And, who knows what else it's doing/not doing. It's turned into a decent browser for ages 0 - 8.

The "Edit This Bookmark" dialog that opens if you click the highlighted star has a checkbox with "Show editor when saving" (shortcut key in the dialog is Alt+S). This item is at the bottom just above "Remove Bookmark" and "Done".

Those were two different points. To clarify:

(1) On a bookmarked page, click the blue star icon in the address bar

(2) On the drop-down, check the box to "Show editor when saving" -- this became optional around Firefox 63

You also can install an extension to change the initial folder for new bookmarks, but you may not need that.

Some data in the storage folder under a site doesn't seem to fall into any of the categories listed in Clear Recent History or the Settings for the Clear history when Firefox closes feature.

Here's one example: on my website, there is a page that uses an asm.js script, and when Firefox compiles it, a huge chunk of code is placed in the storage folder for my site. Last time I tested, this wasn't covered by any of the normal categories for removal. It also doesn't contain any personal information, so it's an exception I don't worry about too much.

Are there particular sites where you notice a problem of non-removed storage?
