Receiving Pop up window "mail server sent incorrect greeting: 4.3.4 allocated resources exceeded.
Today in our office, anyone sending email from Thunderbird will sporadically receive a pop up window stating "An error occurred while sending email: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: 4.3.4 allocated resources exceeded." It does not occur at every sending attempt but every second or third. We will try it again and usually it goes through. Sometimes it takes several repeat attempts to get it to send.
Thank you.

My problem is that the email I'm attempting to send in Thunderbird does get sent IF i use the Centurytel webmail it does send but it does not come in to my inbox (i added my address to the sent email). It shows up in my Thunderbird as sent but only if i send it through their webmail . When calling Centurytel about problems with Thunderbird I'm most often told "we do not support Mozilla Firefox Thunderbird.

IF CenturyLink TRULY looks into and fixes the problem that will be great. (The only reason that I stay with CL is because their LOCAL tech support is friendly and competent. Nationally, I'm not impressed.) Thank you, Jody.
Mine is the original on this thread. Having found 58 people with this problem is actually a comfort. Thanks.
I will try the bypass with the Centurylink connect open. It seems that I am Centurylink too (only it's called Embarqmail with mine, I've been with them for a while). In the meantime, we can keep bombarding Centurylink. But can the Mozilla people do something from their end? Are they listening?

My local CL tech support is great, too, the few times I have used them.
Starting today, I'm getting this same notification every time I send a message. However, surprisingly enough, my messages are going through in spite of the error. What exactly does that error signify anyway?
Ever since Matt (I think was his name) found a work around for this problem, I have hit the 'get mail' before I hit send and its working fine. When I forgot tonight I got the error message and went back and hit the 'get mail' first then I created a new mail and sent it, and it went just fine.
Many thanks to Matt and praying someday Cent Link will fix this.
Merry-Widow, Are you sure they are getting through? Or are they just showing in your sent folder? In the past mine have shown in the sent folder, but not gotten through. I haven't had the problem lately and have not hit the "Get Messages" button. Either CenturyLink has fixed it or I am lucky.
Storygordon: I forgot to mention they showed up in 'sent' even when they really didn't. Call it a senior moment. But most important to know that.
I also use 'embarqmail' a branch of Century Link.
In any case when it was happening to me, I sometimes could go a whole week or more before I got the error, other times maybe just a few hours or a day. But so far the fix you posted from Matt is working.
"Matt's" solution is mentioned here in several posts, but as I scan back through these posts I cannot find a "Matt" anywhere, hence I don't know what his solution it. As we know there are several potential solutions posted here but I have yet to find Matt's and would like to know if ANYONE has found a real solution. As we know the problem does not occur each and every time, it's has been a 'hit and miss' problem, meaning things will be fine for days even weeks, then all of a sudden 'HE'S BAAACCCKKKK'!!!!
linflh, My career in IT began in 1961 and gremlins never go away. One day CL will fix this. Until then, Matt's "fix" works.
mitey1, They must show only the latest posts. The "fix" is to "Get Messages" before "Send"
Thank you!!!

I sent a test message to myself at another email address. This message generated the subject error, but was shown in my Sent folder. It also appeared in the Inbox of my alternate address where I opened it with no problem. Go figure.

Merry-Widow, Good move. I use the IMAP feature of TB to access two email accounts and use it as you noted. There are times I send an email to the other and get the 4.3.4 error with the sent message showing in the Sent folder, but it does not make it to the inbox of the other. Caution and verification are important.

I guess I'm not familiar enough with TBird because I don't know what IMAP is or does. Maybe others are familiar with it but it's new to me. If you don't mind a brief explanation of the full name, where it's found and what it does would be appreciated, thanks in advance, John
Same here. I know the basics of TB but not the nuances.
Mitey1 and Dave71. In settings when setting up how to get your mail there is IMAP or POP3 to choose from... I have always used the pop 3 with any servers I have had, and do not know the actual difference between the 2 without going on a search, I am sure its explained in the settings somewhere and I have read it in the past but just don't remember the difference..... Hopefully Storygordon will log in and give us the scoop.
IMAP, Internet Message Application Protocol, allows you to have multiple email in the same TBird main page. It is an Internet function supported by many email clients. DEtails are at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Message_Access_Protocol

Interesting, I guess I never bothered with it because Thunderbird brings in my 4 address's with embarqmail on pop3, and I use mail (dot) com to pick up all the other junk address's I have which total 6 or 7 and they also are pop3. I hate messing with settings. its so confusing to say the least. Probably because I haven't been very interested in that part. If it ain't broke don't fix it. My mantra. you are very helpful Mr. Storygordon keep up the good work.
OH, I almost forgot Storygordon....., the link in the email from support is not the same as the one above. Its some kind of library thing.
linfih, The wiki link is for info about IMAP. There are as many ways to set up TBird email as there are ways of eating an apple. Use the one you prefer.
