My husband needs the page text larger than I do. When he uses Alt + Shift+ to enlarge the first page, he has to do that with every page. This is like when he goes to Craigslist and moves from page to page to page still within Craigslist. It is the same no matter what site he moves around in. This just started since we deleted an older version of Firefox and downloaded this version (7.0.1) the other day. We hardly ever use it, but I opened Internet Explorer and tried to go from page to page maintaining the same enlarged size text without resetting it each time I opened a new page. IE still works just fine maintaining the chosen size. We select IE's size the same way we do with Firefox. We are using Win7 Pro 64-bit SP1. We use tabs and open a new window in a new tab instead.

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.
