Several times, if I receive images larger than 3 mb, thunderbird cannot open the mail. It starts consuming all the memory, but I can't open the mail. It consumes 32GB of ram. I tried to update, but the latest version is up. 91.9.0. 64 bits. I tried turning on compression, but it still freezes. What should I do?

There was an issue with files containing EXIF data, potentially image had to be rotated before being displayed. There is a bug report on this which devs have been working on and there should be fix due soon. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1752280 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1727378

They discovered removing the EXIF data fixed the issue, so the problem was identified. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1752280#c3

In bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1741136 Similiar issue. I tried to force a problem to occur, but noted images were created on apple phone, sent with Content-Disposition: inline; when they were attachments and loading became an issue if image did not snap to a size within the window. The properties of saved image also showed EXIF data. I managed to shake sides of window to force a snap and then image was viewable.

AS far as I'm aware there is no intention to fix in version 91, but it has been fixed in a future version so currently being tested in beta versions.

Is it possible to somehow turn off not embedding the images in the mail, just having them as attachments?

In the meantime, I found a solution to not display the images in the message, so I can quickly open messages with images in them and the program doesn't freeze. Thank you for your reply.
