I recently did a restore to default & since then when I want to open my G mail account from the Mozilla home page it opens in a side bar splitting the screen keeping the home page half over the mail account, which prevents seeing the whole page. The Home page has no header or back arrow, it just shows an enlarged Firefox. I did go into the menu & removed the sidebar icon, restarted Mozilla, but still have the same problem. Please help with fixing this. I also should say if I search for a web site & click on it, it opens in a new tab.

Thank you for any help

This may be an option on the search site you are using to change this. For example:

  • If you are using Google, there is a checkbox to launch each result you click in a new window (Firefox switches new windows to new tabs). https://www.google.com/preferences
  • Et cetera... if there is another site where you can't find their settings, let us know.

Opening in the sidebar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website. You can check the properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the sidebar (Ctrl+B; Command+B on Mac). In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Detail pane at the bottom right. Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" is not selected.

Hi Jeannice, could you check this:

Right-click the button (bookmark) you use to open Gmail. That should display a context menu of actions for the bookmark -- choose Properties. This should open a small dialog with Name and Location at the top. In the lower left corner, look for a checkbox that instructs Firefox to "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" and uncheck that then click Save.

Then test the button again and the site should launch in the main part of the tab.

Success?
