I have tried using Firefox sync (which has synced everything else except my bookmarks).

I have exported to json -> when I import, I receive "Unable to process the backup file". I have validated the json here: http://jsonformatter.curiousconcept.com/

I have rebooted the computer.

I have also tried to export to html and import from html. When I import, I get nothing. No bookmarks, no messages, nothing. I have checked and verified that there is information in the html file.

Please help me get my bookmarks properly transferred.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi eryoung369, Sorry to hear about the bookmark issue. There is a bit of a hack you can also try. If you start a new profile and copy and paste the places.sqlite file over the new profile folder and then restart Firefox with the new profile, do the bookmarks show up?

Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

Another try: copy the json file to another directory outside the profile folder. Go to Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks> Backup and Restore > File... and select the json file you moved.

Does that JSON backup have the correct .json file extension?

Make sure that the bookmarks backup file has the correct (lowercase) file extension:

  • .html for a HTML backup
  • .json for a JSON backup

A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup shows as a web page with clickable links.

A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded": An HTML backup starts with: <!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1>
