The download arrow that shows what is being downloaded, has a single file in it that never completes. I have the file already, and I wish to delete the request.

Here's what's been tried so far:

I found the download file in history and tried to stop it there.
I tried pausing the download from the down arrow in FF
I told history to forget about this site.
 I deleted all history.
The browser is still trying to download the file.
"Unknown time remaining - 0 of 0 bytes"
This behavior spans FF quit/start cycles.

What can be done?

Thanks.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Open your Profile folder and then with Firefox closed, delete the downloads.sqlite file.

You can find Pause/Resume in the right-click context menu of an item.
There should be a Cancel button next to each item.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Firefox uses the about: protocol to access built-in about: pages that you can open via the location bar just like you open web pages.

I have a new problem: When I hit the down arrow, now I do not get anything being listed, though I have downloaded 3 files since wiping the history of all downloads. I still get a time to completion clock if I'm actually downloading something at the time.

I am tending to think a reset is in order, but wish to know if it's possible to preserve preferences and the extension list prior to doing the reset.

Thanks,

My adventure continues...

I go to the add on manager (about:addons) and I click the gear icon and see "Install add-ons from file".

How would I create this file? Can I create the file so that after I do my reset, I can re-install them from that file?
