Must get this off my system ASAP and restore earlier version- how?

Mouse movement or wheel scrolling makes the pages jump "back" or "forward". Firefox now unstable.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

Also check the mouse driver settings in "Control Panel > Mouse" and make sure that you have the latest update of your mouse driver software.

Your above posted system details show multiple Java Console extensions.
You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions

See also http://www.java.com/en/download/help/quickstarter.xml - What is Java Quick Starter (JQS)? What is the benefit of running JQS? - 6.0

Disable the Java Quick Starter extension: Tools -> Addons -> Extensions
Control Panel -> Java -> Advanced tab -> Miscellaneous -> Java Quick Starter (disable)

I messed around with safe mode and other suggestions and the problem persists. As I see it I have two choices. Either there is a way for me to roll back my Firefox to the previous version, which I will try, or there is not. If there is not, my other option is to uninstall Firefox and get anything connected to it off my system and then try Chrome or IE8.

So once again I will ask, how do I roll back to my prior version?

Well, after spending two days having my computer go nuts when I used my mouse and trying everything posted here as well as a few other things, I decided to try one last thing and roll back my mouse driver from the 2010 version. When I did it was a version from 2007. Since doing so everything seems to be OK. I am using a Logitech wired mouse, model M-BZ96C.

I have had a PC since 1989 and have learned over the years that sometimes an upgrade really isn't and that often if one's computer is working fine, it is best to decline to update drivers and,or software unless not doing so results in a loss of functionality. Every now and then I forget that pearl of wisdom.

I posted too fast. The problem returned soon after that. I have now spent a bunch of time having the mouse freeze and having to reboot my PC to get it unfrozen. I have reinstalled drivers, cleaned and recleaned the registry and Googled the problem and read all sorts of posts. i am now on the most Novel and simple of solutions. I have always had my mouse connected to the mouse port (aka PS2). I found a post about similar setup and problem with a reply which suggested switching the mouse inout to a USB port. I have done this and so far so good.

I hate posting links to other sites and all, but this is the link that helped me. I'm just passing on what I learned. Hope this helps you as much as it helped me.

Peace
