Hi everyone,

I've installed the most recent Firefox version (Firefox 92.0.1 (64-bit)) on a new laptop. In order to use the spell checker, I've downloaded several languages as per these instructions: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-use-firefox-spell-checker Nevertheless only English is displayed in the selection window (see attached screenshots).

Does anyone know how I can fix this to be able to choose between the installed languages?

Thanks,

Bob

Do you have a dictionary installed and selected?

It looks like you confused dictionary with language pack and that you actually do not have a dictionary installed.

  • installed dictionaries appear under "Add-ons -> Dictionaries"
  • installed language packs appear under "Add-ons - > Languages"

You can look here for dictionaries:

Note that for spell check you need a dictionary. A language pack provides string translations for the user interface.

You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages sub menu. At least one dictionary should be installed and have a check mark to indicate that it is selected.

  • open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.

The spelling checker is enabled if [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a checkmark. You can enable or disable spell checking globally:

Thanks for the quick reply, cor-el!

D'uh, me stupid, I installed the language packs but without the dictionaries. Obviously the spellchecker won't work without them ...
