I'm setting up a new email with Gmail and I have logged on there, all sorted. This is a new Gmail account in addition to one I already have. The next step is to set up the new account in Thunderbird.

I get to a screen "Set up an existing email account" where the Gmail configuration is found. I selected Done and the next screen is Google One account, with the email in the yellow box. I selected next and the email vanished with the same screen minus the email coming up. I keyed the email, selected next, and the same thing happened. The Thunderbird setup screen then said that it was unable to log in at the server.

This is quite frustrating as I cannot see what needs to be done. Advice on this point would be valued. TIA.

SFHowes, many thanks. It was so simple, but it defeated me. This sort of thing is too common, where a subtle keystroke error or setup blunder can stop things. Consider formal c; / format c: /u The first will not work, two typos. A little typo can urine your day. No wonder my palms are going bald.
