On a Mac, Thunderbird notifies you when new e-mail is received by flagging the TB icon in the Dock. I think it's called "badging the app icon", which you can disable in SysPrefs/Notifications, if you want. I find that pretty handy. But is there any way to wake the display screen when e-mail is received? If my display screen is asleep, I'm not going to notice any badged app icon. If I see my screen pop awake, I'd be able to know that e-mail has arrived.

Not a Mac user, but this article explains how to turn off 'wake from sleep' in Enhanced Notifications, as long as your mac satisfies the system requirements (2015+ Mac, open lid etc.). As long as you don't have 'Do No Disturb' and 'When the display is sleeping' activated, it should work. Whether it works with just Mail app or any other mail program like TB is not clear.

Thanks, that's a good idea. When I do that, and my display is asleep, when I get an e-mail a you-have-mail "notification banner" pops up in the upper right hand corner. That would do the trick, but the banner disappears in ten seconds, leaving one with a sleeping blank screen! Now, I *can* adjust the length of time of these banners, but when my screen is awake, and I'm using it, I don't want these banners cluttering it up.

I guess what I need is something that awakens my screen if there is a notification banner. That's not a TBird issue, so I'll look elsewhere for that.
