newtab is gone, how to get it back?

First of all thx for making life harder with every update instead of easier!

After automated upgrade to v60, the newtab configuration is gone. Before, i nicely arranged the URL's i KNOW i need the most in a 4x4 matrice. Now, YOU decide, which bullshit to highlight and which sites have to be my TopSites.

How to recover my former 4x4 newtab layout, with URL's I CONFIGURED, back? I tried to find the corresponding config file in the .mozilla directory i backed up recently, but did not find that information there.

Sometimes, you should offer your users the choice, to decide, what they want, not, what you want them to want!

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

Hi biker225, did you previously pin sites on your new tab page? That list should be saved in this preference in your old prefs.js file:

user_pref("browser.newtabpage.pinned", ...

When I compared a Firefox 62 list with a Firefox 52 list, there is a change related to the title, which is now sometimes called the label. I don't know if there is a clean way to reconvert the list or whether you might need to manually add those URLs.

Many thanks. The hint to look at prefs.js was what i were looking for. So, now the question is, how to reintegrate it in new version of FF...

Hi biker225, I agree, that is the question. If the formats were identical, you could (very carefully) join the lists together in a text editor. (That would be easier than the short single-line box in about:config.) However, I don't know if that will work with the two versions you are trying to join or migrate between.
