Cannot connect to smtp server
My OS is ubuntu 14.04 LTS, I am using Thunderbird version 38.5.1. i'm able to receive emails, but cannot connect to the smtp server. Here my settings:

Your current settings stated above for the Outgoing Server (SMTP) are:
outgoing server: mail.riseup.net port: 465 Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: normal password User name: username or username@riseup.net (don't know)
On the one hand, riseup gives these settings:
outgoing server: smtp.riseup.net port: 465 Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: normal password User name: username or username@riseup.net (don't know)
but they also suggest these settings:
outgoing server: mail.riseup.net port: 465 (or 587) Security: SSL/TLS (or STARTTLS) Authentication: normal password User name: username (part of your address before @)
So, I'm not sure if it's the server name, security/port or user name that you have to change to make it work.
