I reinstalled Ubuntu 14.04, having saved my complete Home folder to a separate HDD. I now find that I can't get Thunderbird to access my two email accounts txxxxxxxxxxs@yahoo.co.uk and rxxxxxxxxxxa2@gmail.com. How do I recover the settings like Username (I forgot what I used) and Password?

When you say you reinstalled Ubuntu, was it from scratch or as an upgrade? Once Ubuntu was installed, did you copy your Home folder back from the HDD? your profile for TB is located in Home/.thunderbird/********.profile For TB to use it, it should be in place before TB is loaded.
