I'm connected to the internet (e-mail works) but after FF 33.0.2 installed it doesn't connect (nor IE11) and winsock reset didn't fix this.

The e-mail that works is based on Eudora (on Win 7 Ultimate, SP1) which uses my main computer internet connection. I have two ethernet connections from the main computer to the internet - one from the MB and the other from a USB device, so the problem is not device specific. The gmail address provided is an alternate address which I can access from my laptop (which I'm using to connect to you now). I've checked all internet setup options and they are the same between this laptop and my main computer. This laptop is running FF 32.0.2. To repeat, I ran "netsh winsock reset" as an Administrator and rebooted the computer with no change. I had also run the FF Reset earlier. I also repeat, this inability to connect occurred after the FF33.0.2 update on 10/30 when I was running FF 33.0.1 since about 10/15 with no problems. I have FF set for notify before installation. I restarted to an earlier saved setpoint (10/28) before FF33.0.2 was installed (10/30), but FF 33.0.2 was still running after the restart. Your assistance will be appreciated.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Network. Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. Check the settings.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

I found that Firefox was not listed in the Windows Firewall as an Allowed Program. I added FF to the list, Private was checked and when I went to the FF browser I still was not connected. I tried Public as well as Private in the Firewall - no change. I have Norton 360 installed, but it was installed before the upgrade with no problem connecting.

3 days later: I restored the computer back to before I upgraded with MS's latest Win 7 security updates (10/28) and my browser connection has been restored.

Go to the Microsoft.com forums, and ask about this. Good luck.
