To reset Firefox, I need to be in Firefox, but I can't get it to open to reset it, not without downloading it again.

When i double click onthe firefox icon to open it , it doesn't. I have had to download it again and again and again and I'm getting fed up of it. All the troubleshooting help is for when you can open firefox, this is no use when you can't.

Try a clean reinstall of Firefox that includes deleting the program files, but at this stage do NOT use any option that removes personal information or profile files.

  • Has Firefox previously been installed and working correctly ?
  • Is this only happening after an upgrade to Firefox ?
  • What OS and type of device are you using ?

Hello Sandrad, Iam also looking for a solution in the same area,

does it fit to say; regarding reseting Firefox it does not help removing Firefox from your Software list, because installing firefox just gives you back the same?

ofcourse, your clikking on the icon and it just doesn't open, thats different from my problem. My Avg Anti virus was telling me firefox is using 230Mb space.

thoug iam just chatting up right now, maybe it helps, greets OscarSevilla

Hi oscarsevilla,

If you read the articles linked from my post above do any of them help you ? If not I suggest you start your own thread using /questions/new.

Post back here afterwards to confirm you have done so, and we will be able to find the new question.

N.B. I am not sure AVG telling you Firefox is using 230MB of space is actually anything significant or any indication of a problem.

Sandrad, have you tried opening Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key as you click on the Firefox icon?

Sorry if this is all a bit basic but have you tried right clicking on the Firefox icon and clicking on "Open" ?

Also, you might try opening Firefox from the Start Menu or the All Programs list(or the equivalent in the OS you are using). Your Desktop icon may be the problem.

oscarsevilla,

You are correct. The directory Mozilla Firefox that you have attached a screenshot (printscreen) of is the directory that is to be deleted. It is the Firefox program directory.

Before you do that

  1. Use Firefox to download the new Firefox installer
  2. Use Firefox to identify the Firefox Profile. That is a directory that you will NOT be deleting.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
