Does this appear at random, on your home page, on particular sites?

Is it possible to post a screenshot of the message, or describe a few other aspects of it? For example, is it an infobar that opens between the toolbar area and the page, or a pop-up dialog? Does it mention Java or contain publisher information?

The screenshot is too large and won't allow me to upload it. I replied to your original email and attached the screenshot, but have not yet heard back.

Hi DonEGee, if you replied to the notifications address, I don't think that will reach me. I'll message you through the forum with an alternate email address.

Here's the screen shot, in slightly reduced quality for posting.

It looks like a prompt from the Java plugin. The domain referenced was just registered on April 1, 2013 and has disguised its ownership with a privacy service. I definitely would NOT trust it.

How do you get rid of it?

more options

If you disable the Java plugin, then you won't get the prompt. Of course, this will impact applets you actually want to run, such as some games. You can disable Java here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category

You might also check with the site on whether this is expected behavior. Just in case they were hacked.

I have 2 Java Plug-ins listed in tools:

1. Java Deployment Tool Kit 7.0.170.2 10.17.2.2 NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java Deploy

2. Java TM Platform SE 7 U17 10.17.2.2 Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.17.2 for Mozilla Browser

Also, I have 1 Java in Extensions: Java Console 6.0.35

Which one(s) do you think I should disable?

You can disable all 3 of those. If you need to run a Java applet, it is #2 that actually does the work. Those others, I really don't know why they're there.
