Why does Firefox keep giving me the message on the home page that I need to upgrade to the latest version, when I have downloaded and installed 7.0.1 multiple times?

The Firefox home page periodically alerts me to the need to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox. Lately, it keeps telling me that I need to upgrade, and I do upgrade and the download page downloads 7.0.1. I install it, but then a few days later the home page says I need to upgrade. So, I go to the download page and the version is still 7.0.1. This has happened multiple times. Why doesn't it recognize that I am running the latest version?

Instead of running the updater, download and install the latest version from mozilla.org/firefox - this should fix the issue and you won't get update prompts until a new version is available (new Firefox coming next week BTW).

Have you checked the Updating Firefox article?

What does the Help > About Firefox say regarding the cvhannel and the installed version? It could be, that every time the 7.01 installation does not finish properly

Did you check the home page setting to be sure that it isn't set to such an update page?
