In Firefox 4 by default the Stop button is combined with the Go and reload buttons and is attached to the right hand edge of the location bar.

When you are typing in the location bar it will show the Go button. When a site is loading it shows the Stop button. At other times it shows the Reload button.

if you want separate buttons, right-click on a toolbar and choose Customize, you can then drag and drop the stop or reload buttons and place them elsewhere. If you place them in the order "Reload-Stop" on the right hand edge of the location bar they will be combined again. For more details on customizing the toolbar see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar

Place a separator between each button then you can place them in whatever order you want.

Tony, thanks for your answer. Putting them 3 functions under one is a smart move.

I can't find a freaking stop button anywhere, not even in the icon choices it gives me if I right click on a tool bar! There are all kinds of buttons but no STOP button! It was available in the versions before 4! Arghhhhhhhhhhhh!

TonyE, I don't know what version of Firefox you're using, but at the right hand edge of MY location bar I have a star for bookmark this page, a dropdown arrow for history, and a reload current page icon. There is no Go button and I can't find any stop button, not even in the Customize Toolbar choice I am given if I right click it.

You can also press the ESC key to stop pages loading.

Firefox 4 uses a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end side of the location bar.
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
Middle-click the Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.

To move the Stop and Reload buttons to their position to the left of the location bar you can use these steps:

  • Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
  • Drag the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position to the left of the location bar.
  • Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
  • Set the order to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise to get two distinct buttons.

How can I get "Back/Forward - Reload - Stop" (as in Firefox 3) without adding a seperator between Reload | Stop?

Can someone link to an Addon?

Only the order Stop - Reload will give you separate buttons without a separator. CSS rules are used to combine the buttons if the order is Reload - Stop
