Why has DuckDuckGo taken over as my search engine and cannot be found or removed?

Suddenly DuckDuckGo has taken over as my search engine instead of Google. Following the simple instructions to remove a search engine has not solved the problem. DuckDuckGo is no longer a visible Add-On as I removed it -- but Firefox automatically switches from Google to DuckDuckGo when I attempt any search at all.

The duck has literally taken over my Firefox -- I never asked it to or ever downloaded it. And with no way to delete it as it can longer be found I am anxious for a solution. Help lease.

You have a known hijacker. Not sure why they switch from Bing to Yahoo to DuckDuckGo, but either way, it's annoying.

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Command+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any system extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Remove "SearchAssist Incognito" and Disable anything else you do not recognize or remember installing.

Sometimes a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox before the change takes effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

Turn of the "incognito" function and it all goes away.
