How can I prevent automatic creation of folders, such as 'Trash', on our IMAP server during creation of a new email account and during startup of Thunderbird.

We have been using Thunderbird-31.8.0 and earlier mail clients for a long time on Gentoo boxes and laptops to connect to our IMAP server.

The IMAP server's directory structure is: root@server-2:/var/vmail/c5ace.com/test/Maildir# /.INBOX /.INBOX.Archives /.INBOX.Drafts /.INBOX.Junk /.INBOX.Sent /.INBOX.Templates /.INBOX.Trash

Thunderbird versions later than 31.8.0 automatically create a second (unwanted) Trash folder: root@server-2:/var/vmail/c5ace.com/test/Maildir# /.INBOX /.INBOX.Archives /.INBOX.Drafts /.INBOX.Junk /.INBOX.Sent /.INBOX.Templates /.INBOX.Trash /.Trash <--- Unwanted Folder

The unwanted Trash folder is created when starting up Thunderbird and when creating a new email account on Thunderbird.

The same happens with all email accounts when the user has multiple email accounts.

This bug prevents us from using later version of Thunderbird such as version 45.7.0.

This bug is very annoying because this unwanted Trash folder can only be removed by the System Administrator on the server.

How can I prevent that Thunderbird versions higher then 31.8 automatically creates this unwanted Trash Folder at startup and when creating a new email account?

Is there hidden feature to disable automatic directory creation during cration of a user account and startup of Thunderbird?

I see what is happening.... and I think setting the IMAP server directory to "inbox" will possibly prevent it after the account is created. But I think you probably should file a bug in Bugzilla for the issue as I see no way to stop it happening in the account setup/initial download.
