a lot of people has similar issue with thunderbird wanting to add the security exception for avast. In my case it's not avast and it started suddenly after using my e-mail for few months. Captions added Thanks a lot

It is not just avast... lots of anti virus are using hacking to scan communication now and totally ignoring best practice with regard to certification authorities.

Otherwise, perhaps you need to install the intermediate certificate mentioned in this thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/919570
