Unable to Import Windows Live Mail emails & contacts

more options

I have tried to export the emails from Windows Live Mail and this has created several folders with contents in one major folder under "My Online Documents".

When I request Thunderbird to Import the emails it does not seem to wish to locate where these folders are.It also only talks about Windows Express or Outlook "files". Are there specific fields that I should activate to enable it to locate the folders and then to see the Windows Live Mail folders please?

Thank you.

No, it is looking for an installation of OE etc to negotiate with.

There is no simple "import email messages from somewhere else" option mainly because there is no single standardised format for transfer or exchange of email messages.

What kind of files do you have in your backup?

Zenos, Thank you. All the data I have there are emails stored in the Windows Live Mail formats with attachments eventually. Does Thunderbird know what the format for the emails as the Live Mail software looks like or would that be a future development down the road? Live Mail only allows me to export to Outlook or Outlook Express and Eudora is greyed out. It shows no options like a csv file or other type. Can I open the files with "wordpad" and save them in a format that would be acceptable to Thunderbird please? Chris

There's a tutorial here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_and_exporting_your_mail (at the bottom, under the heading 'Windows Mail')
