How do I import emails from outlook when I get a message saying 'sending of password did not succeed'?
I'm attempting to import my inbox from MS Outlook 2016 (it's only a trial version and will soon stop). However, when I double click on the 'Get messages' tab, I get the message below in a pop-up box.
Error with account j_dmckeone@bigpond.com
Sending of password for user j_dmckeone@bigpond.com did not succeed. Mail server mail.bigpond.com responded: pop operation is not allowed for this user.
I'm not sure what that message means. I hope you can help.

Have you asked bigpond about this? It would appear that you have set up a account to use POP and they don't want you to use this. Either they don't support POP or it hasn't been enabled on the account. If they really don't want you to use POP then I'd assume your account should be set to use IMAP, but I can't see how you come to be using POP if the server didn't offer it when adding the account.

Thanks Zenos I'll give bigpond a call.
Sorry folks. I have deleted my accidental post
BTW, Bigpond email is largely provided by Microsoft as part of the Hotmail/Outlook service. Newer accounts are not actually hosted with Bigpond.
Last I heard thy described an account migration to hotmail/outlook as occurring when your account it migrated to their new billing system. Even as a customer that really makes little sense, other than your have to be aware which set of servers your getting your mail from. I would not be surprised if you have been migrated.
You will need to go to the outlook.com web site, sign in with your telstra user name and password and enable POP mail there so you can use pop mail.
