Yahoo is the default search engine for Firefox. You don't need to install this, it is built-in with browser. Consider to see this article about changing your default search engine: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-search-bar-firefox#w_set-a-default-search-engine

You can check the keyword assigned to search engines in "Options/Preferences > Search".

Are you using 'y' with parameters appended or only a bar 'y'?

A keyword is only recognized when used with at least one parameter. Otherwise autocomplete might pop in.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
