I'll be doing common things (Facebook and youtube recently) and firefox will randomly crash every ~15 minutes more or less. I have had this computer and windows 8 for about two months and have had no problems prior to this, Internet Explorer still works fine and I am running Firefox 19, all of my plugins are up to date and it even crashes in safe mode.

Here are the latest crash reports: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/pending/5946ceb7-9e54-4f4e-ab5b-1b72f2130221 https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/f1786eb7-998a-4888-abb1-7e8532130221 https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/04c3379f-0fba-4b77-b2f8-9708c2130221

UPDATE

Having just checked the bug I note a recent comment that Firefox 20 is not affected by this problem. So the best advice now would be to upgrade to Firefox 20 by using the beta channel. Note

My personal opinion is that using Beta is a good idea especially for the more advanced users, any problems will be seen 6 weeks earlier, but the process for downgrading to the Release channel is relatively straight forward, and is always going to be a secure version. The downgrade should solve any problem, because you will be going back to a version you used six weeks earlier.

This is a crash developers are aware of and working on, possibly the only solution at the moment is to downgrade to Firefox 17.edit Firefox 18.0.2

If you do that do NOT use any option to delete personal information, as you will destroy bookmarks and passwords.

I will try to get back later or tomorrow with further information.

Others reading this please try to check your own Crash Reports or post your own thread,do not presume that all crashes in Windows 8 will require a downgrade.

I am also having this problem, but it is unclear to me HOW to install an older version of Firefox ("older" in this case meaning back to December, 2012). The link goes to another link that goes to a page full of files, etc. I am about to go to Google Chrome but don't want to. Thanks in advance.

This same crash (verified from teh crash reports) is occuring in version 19 here. There seems to have been a long period of 15 days prior to version 19 upgrade where the last of the 18.0.* versions was not crashing. Perhapse the downgrade need not be all the way to 17.

Sorry I have corrected the first post the suggested workaround is to downgrade to Firefox 18.0.2
(Personally I had another potential solution in mind that made me think of fx17 )

Installation instructions are here

It is a pretty major crash one of the most important as far as Windows 8 and Firefox is concerned.I was hoping the bug may have been very rapidly resolved, or that official advice would be provided by Admins.

I have been checking back on here but havent logged in sorry about that, downgrading didnt work i believe so i've been using google chrome but im about to try the Firefox 20 beta, ill edit this post later on with the results.

Downgrading should have worked. Not important now but if anyone does downgrade

  1. check the version is actually Firefox 18.0.2
  2. record and post a couple of the CrashIDs, it may in fact turn out that the Crash is for a different reason

Sorry to hear the downgrade did not resolve the issue.
Good luck with Fx 20 Beta

I have 21.0. And I still crash. 11 crashes this month - yes it's only the 4 Jun. Heavens knows how many before that. I have just had 1 day without a crash. Firefox's health report is a laugh. I believe the developers are just playing at being browser boys. it's got one more day and I'm off to IE10 or any other browser that won't fall over. AND I've used Firefox for years. Bryan

Hi Byrannp,
sorry you are having problems.

The vast majority of crashes are due to something specific to small groups of users or certain applications and do not fix themselves. You have finally taken a step in the right direction by asking about your crash.

May I suggest

  1. You read this article and try to follow the advice it contains
Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly)
  2. Start your own thread by using /questions/new
    • Try to follow the prompts for including troubleshooting information
    • Please paste couple of Crash ID s into the question (use about:crashes - see 1 above)
  3. Post back in this thread to confirm that you have done that. (we may cross link the threads).

The Firefox Health Report is a new feature that is in development. Features are likely to be added in stages, and there are two sides to this, reporting metrics to developers, and helping the end user fix problems through an interactive interface. Some of the plans are detailed here:
