firefox has just updated itself to v 31. no tabs on top in about:config. no tabs on top in options. download "classic theme restorer". tabs on top feature moves moves bookmark toolbar instead. seriously. when are they going to give the user the option of opting out automatic updates. and please tell me how to get the tabs on top.

Actually, those changes were introduced 3 months ago in Firefox 29, so somehow you avoided updating for a long time.

Anyway, Classic Theme Restorer definitely can do it. Can you find the part of the options for moving the location of your tab bar? Some of the panels in the dialog are long and require scrolling.

Oops, that panel doesn't have any scrolling. Here's what I get in a fresh profile of Firefox 31 with "tabs not on top" selected.

If yours is not working that way, you might consider removing the old toolbar layout settings file (localstore.rdf) and let Firefox create a fresh one.

To do that, open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old

Start Firefox back up again and see whether CTR works as designed.

What do you mean with the thread title: Tabs on the side?? Can you clarify what you want to achieve?
