I get an error message every time I try to download exe files from the internet such as GIMP, Gamejolt Client and Steam. The message is as follows: C:\Users\ "insert my username here" \AppData\Local\Temp\7Tjm+hdo.exe.part could not be saved because the source file could not be read. I have tried clearing cache, refreshing, disabling all my extensions, removing temporary files, opening in admin mode, uninstalling and reinstalling, and reinstalling as admin. It's been working until I turned it on today. Nothing I'm doing is working. Please help me. I don't want to switch to Chrome or Opera.

What happens when you try to download to the desktop?

That sometimes indicates:

  • your security software grabbed and quarantined the file (but usually not with every single file)
  • Firefox was denied permission by Windows to rename the .part file to its final name

If you open the Windows Temp folder and sort by Last Modified date, are .part files accumulating there? A shortcut to open that file is to type or paste %TEMP% in the Windows 10 system search box and press Enter to launch it in Windows' File Explorer.

A screenshot of the issue would be nice.  ;-))

I don't know, because I decided to restart my computer and not use my wifi usb adapter and it's working now. Not sure why, but it is. My laptops internal wifi got screwed up a while back when my nephew dropped it so I started using a usb adapter. I guess when I go to download things I'll switch to the slower connection.

The issue was resolved with a restart and unplugging a usb wifi adapter, as explained in another quote/answer. There was only one part file after trying several times and I deleted it, seeing if that resolved the issue but it didn't. I also switched the folder's read only mode off and it didn't work either.
