new bookmark cannot see all bookmark folders - only other folders - choose folder does not work?

I right click a page to bookmark Click on the star (like I used to) The folder shows "other bookmarks" and no way out to the multitude of other folders. Choose takes me back on the same loop and no way up the tree. This happened immediately I was stupid enough to allow the latest up date so it is definitely caused by a bad update (again). The last time I updated the bookmarks simply vanished. Maybe there is a connection. Is this all part on getting compatible with mobile phones minute screens? It is a real step backwards again. I wish I could just go back to the last version that worked fine.

Hi smokeand, what happens when you click Choose...? It should open a panel where you can drill down into any of the 3 "containers": Bookmarks Toolbar, Bookmarks Menu, or Other Bookmarks. If a container has folders, there will be an icon on the left side. The appearance varies between different OS versions, so it could be a triangle or a > and it may be very light gray. If you click to the left of Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu where that icon should be, does Firefox show its folders?
