Thunderbird (52.9.1) doesn't store my setting, that when composing messages the default format is ,,normal text", not ,,paragraph".
I don't want thunderbird to add a new line everytime I hit return, when composing or answering messages. So I changed the settings in ,,Einstellungen / Verfassen / Allgemein" and unhooked ,,Format ,,Absatz anstatt ,,normaler Text verwenden" (Sorry, I'm German and don't know how the menu entries are called in English exactly . Maybe ,,Settings/Composing/General" and then ,,use format paragraph instead of normal text" ). I did this in the general settings and also in the account settings. It works as long as thunderbird is running, but is forgotten when it is restarted. But other settings are stored, e.g. the font type for composing. I also edited the configuration and set ,,mail.compose.default_to_paragraph" to false, but it also only works for the current session. What to do?

try safe mode (restart with add-ons disabled from the help menu.
It does not help. I changed the setting to ,,body text" again, restarted in safe mode, and when I write an Email there is again the ,,paragraph" format.
Do you use CCleaner? It is known to reverse setting in user preferences, where this is stored. Try configuring it to skip your profile directory.
No, I don't use CCleaner. Actually I'm on a Linux system. Maybe I should have mentioned this. But my last laptop was also Linux, with Thunderbird 45.6.0 and here everything worked fine.
re :Linux, with Thunderbird 45.6.0 Current version is 52.9.1 Have you tried updating to see if this issue resolves itself?
Updated....sorry, I should have paid attention to your question info :)
