Hi!

I am a businessman from Greytown, South Africa and need help with my Firefox Downloads setting.

I have my Downloads set to "Always ask you where to save files." Up until this morning, this brought up a Downloads dialogue that, among other things, gave me the option to either open an attachment or save it to a folder of my choice.

However, as of this morning, this setting no long works. Firefox automatically saves clicked attachments to my Downloads folder. I have checked the Downloads setting and can confirm that it is set correctly to "Always ask you where to save files." I am using Firefox Version 98.0 (64-Bit). Can anyone help? I'd really be grateful as automatic downloads is going to cause me a lot of headaches.

What type of file are you having this problem with? What is its extension? Are you using a download manager?

Dear Fred

Thank you for getting back to me so promptly. The answers to your questions are as follows:-

  1. The problem is with all file types that I would normally receive as attachments; Word, PDF, Jpg
  2. No, I do not use a download manager.

A point to note is that I review incoming emails on our ISP's webmail page. Relevant, business-related attachments are either opened or saved to multiple target folders from the webmail page. The target folders will depend on, among other things, source of the attachments, subject matter etc. I then delete the emails, as indeed I do with Spam emails that make it into the webmail's Inbox. In this way, I am able to limit emails downloaded to my Outlook Inbox to those that are business related or that require a response.

Trust this helps and I look forward to hearing further from you. Kind regards....

Dear Fred

Thank you for your reply and advice. Changing the Downloads settings for each document type under "Applications" did the trick, and I'm a happy Firefox chappie all over again. You, on the other hand, are a star!

All the best and kind regards....
