The Windows Easy Transfer File was created on Windows XP and sitting on an external hard drive. I'm now running WIN 8.1 and using a stand alone utility program (not Easy Transfer because Microsoft no longer supports or uses it in WIN 8.1. grrrr) and don't see any roaming profile data with Mozilla bookmarks and settings in the information from the easy transfer file. Yes, I'm showing hidden files but there is no roaming profile folder. Any tips here?

Sorry I do not think I have used Windows 8, I have used:- 3, 98, XP, 7 & 10 and I am not sure what an Easy Transfer File is.

Do you still have the XP hdd or an image of it ? If so search for the file places.sqlite that is the main database file containing bookmarks. It is also going to be present in any Firefox Profile, and that profile is likely to have important data and files in it.

Please search for places.sqlite on the old XP or XP image and extract or copy that file and make a note of its location so you are able to find it again.

For comparison also search your current Win 8.1 for that file. It should match the location identified by the profile picker about:profiles Key in to the addressbar about:profiles and press the Enter Key that will give you an option to open those locations.

No, the XP OS is long gone having been replaced by win 8 PRO and now ALL on a dead hard drive. Easy Transfer no longer works in Windows (WIN 8.1 and 10) so microsoft links are of no use.
