I got many book marks mostly folder are marked but some time by mistake during book marking some bookmarks landed in strange places. To locate them I use Show all bookmarks/ Library then on the top right "search bookmarks" and locate them. In situation like this keywords and tags prove to be handy.

Today I found one bookmark by "search bookmarks" but could not locate the Folder on the left. I wonder if there is a way to know in which folder desired book mark is?

Thank you.

Hi,

When you go to Show all Bookmarks they might be in the Unsorted Bookmarks or the Bookmarks Menu option.

You can look at these extensions:

You can use this method to locate a bookmark:

  1. Open the bookmark in a tab with a left-click or a middle-click.
  2. Click the yellow (blue on a Mac) star on the location bar to open the "Edit This Bookmark" window
  3. Click the arrow at the far right of the Folder field to see the folder in which that bookmark is stored.
  4. Click the Remove button to remove that bookmark.

You can do this in Offline mode (File or Web Developer > Work Offline) to prevent opening this link.

You can use the above posted steps if you can use the search bar to locate the bookmark(s), but don't know in which folder these bookmarks are.

  • "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" are examples of so called Smart Bookmarks folders and are not real existing folders.
  • Such smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores the bookmarks and the history in Firefox.
  • Smart folder lists show a maximum of 10 entries by default.
  • Bookmarks or history items that show up in a smart folder list are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.
  • If you remove an entry then the list is shifted up and a new entry that wasn't shown previously is added to show 10 entries.
  • If you add a new bookmark or visit a website then a new item is added at the top and the entry at the bottom disappears from that list.
  • Items that disappear from the list are not gone, but merely do not show up anymore in that list.
  • Actions like copy & paste or delete that you perform on bookmarks in such a list are done on the original bookmark.

Thank you for the reply. The problem is some bookmarks do not show their folder that is why I got to search and use them. When I use Recent tags I can see the bookmarks I am looking for but not their folder.

It seems I got to do some manual work and re-bookmark and create a folder.

I wonder when we Bookmark why won't we create a folder for them rather clicking here and there and choose from drop down menu?
