T-Bird does not spell check the subject line of an email. (v24.4.0).
Hello, When composing an email I have chosen to have Thunderbird 24.4.0. check for misspelled words with both underline and spell check prior to sending. While testing I noticed that it underlined and spell checked everything except the "Subject" line. Thunderbird will underline misspelled words in the "Subject" line but won't look for a correct word prior to sending as it does with the body of the email. Are you aware of this and is a fix on the way?
Thanks so much -v-

It is true that when you select Options/Check Spelling, the Subject is ignored, but if 'Spell-check as you type' is enabled, misspelled Subject words are underlined, and right-clicking the text offers corrections. So, it works in a limited sense. This bug may be relevant.

Works for me.
To diagnose problems with Thunderbird:
- Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
Absolutely NO themes or add-ons whatsoever on my system. I run the program "as is" when downloaded (v.24.4.0). I restarted in safe mode as a you suggested. I got the same results - no spell checking in the subject line. Spell check drops directly to the body of the email. Spell checked the body fine. Running WIndows 7. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled to see if that would correct the problem. It did not.

Thank you for admitting that "there is a bug". Your explanation cleared up allot and "Yes" right clicking in the "Subject Line" did give spelling corrections. It's a good work around until the bug is fixed. Thanks for not making me chase my tail with unnecessary troubleshooting. You were a terrific help with this issue.
Thanks again. -v-
We can only admit there is a bug if we are aware of it. We are users of Thunderbird, not paid Mozilla engineers.
