Folders not showing... Thunderbird seems to hang
I shut down my system before leaving for a few days. I accessed my Email accounts via my phone while away. When I returned and rebooted my machine, Thunderbird would not display any of my Email accounts in the folder pane. It would also not show any of the existing (or new) emails in the (default) email window.
I was able to get the Email list to show by sending myself an Email (from my phone), then click on the Email notification (in the notification bar (lower right) on Windows 10) and selecting the Email that just came in. This caused my default Email account to show the existing and new Emails in the main window. The folders pane is still blank.
The contents of the Email that was just received (and clicked via the notification bar) was displayed, but other Emails won't display.
I then attempted an update of Thunderbird to version 52. In fact I deleted the old version and re-installed Thunderbird 52.
Now things are worse. Clicking on Help->AboutThunderbird is ignored (nothing happens).
Windows 10 Control panel (Programs and Features) says that Thunderbird version 52.1.1 (x86 en-US) is installed.
Any assistance is appreciated!

What happens if you start in safe mode? See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird
After rebooting multiple times, it seemed to resolve itself. Prior to it working though, Thunderbird was pretty much unresponsive. Perhaps it was trying to resolve 6 or so days of Email being read on another device?? The Windows 10 task manager didn't however indicate that Thunderbird was consuming much cpu time. If Thunderbird was doing something in the background, there should be some feedback/indication that it was "busy" working on something.
